Monday 15 Jun
A dull day in June but fair weather for a walk during the COVID-19 lockdown. This is a level easy walk through part industrial estate and the old Bandeath Munitions depot near Throsk, not far from Stirling. The immediate surroundings are not very scenic but have a lovely backdrop from the River Forth to the Ochil Hills. We started the route from the car parked on the old road at OS Grid Ref: NS 85904 91130. From here you follow the short side road heading NW and pick up the path through the woods which takes you into the Bandeath industrial estate and the old munitions site. Mostly farm land now but the old buildings and a jetty with an old crane remain. The munitions site was in use from 1916 to sometime in the 1970’s when the site was sold to the local council. Reminder of how things were in the 20th century.
